Description

Edited and Translated by Daniel J. Driscoll. The Sworn Book of Honourius the Magician. As Composed by Honourius through counsel with the Angel Hocroell. Prepared from two British Museum Mansucripts. Gillette, NJ: Heptangle Books. Reprint. Hardcover in red and white dust jacket. Tall octavo. Dated 1977 but this is a ‘facsimile’ of the 2nd, lithographed edition by Heptangle Books and issued by Trident Books much more recently, though actual date is unknown. Bound in dark blue cloth with gilt spine titles. xxv + 111 pages. Illustrated with seals and sigils. This edition is quite uncommon. A fine copy in like dust jacket. The Sworn Book (Liber Juratus) is one of the oldest and most influential texts of Medieval magic. It is believed that the text was compiled to help preserve the core teachings of the sacred magic, in the face of intense persecution by church officials. This was the first attempt at an English translation of this grimoire. Scholars have often noted that Driscoll’s version of the Sworn Book is incomplete and innacurate in places, as well as stating that he took some serious liberties with the texts, etc.
